“When I grew up, I wanted to be a Juke…I still want to be a Juke.”

Roosevelt Dime opens for Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.

Backstage with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes at Bergen PAC

On Sep 21, 2012 we had the opportunity to open for the inimitable Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes at the beautiful Bergen Performing Arts Center. The Asbury Jukes are a Jersey Shore institution creating classic records since 1976. The ranks of Rock & Roll royalty fill the storied history of the Jukes. Check out this close up of an amazing poster chronicling the ever evolving line up of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes including Max Weinberg, Rusty Cloud and Bobby Bandiera.

Other notable musicians who performed with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes include Bruce Springsteen, Clarence Clemmons, Garry Tallent and Richie “La Bamba” Rosenberg.

The Bergen PAC is a great venue and we threw down a rip roaring performance, even though our wireless mics weren’t turned on until the first chorus of “Wishing Well”. Before the Jukes went on for an non-stop two and half our long set we chatted with some die hard old school rock and roll fans afterwards who were very enthusiastic about our performance.

Bart Bottles, a long time Jukes fan said, “You guys are the single best opening act I’ve ever seen in 30+ years of going to shows.” Not too shabby considering Bon Jovi used to open for the Jukes!

Tony and Sam polish off the night with some tasty Columbian food entering a flavor induced state of Rock and Roll nirvana.
