Big Band, Big Fun

Roosevelt Dime + an 8 piece horn orchestra? Yes please… We’ve had this show circled on our calendar for a long time, and it certainly did not disappoint. We were joined by our former bandmate (and current member of Shuffle Along on Broadway) Bruce Harris and his orchestra made up of some of the finest horn practitioners in the Big Apple. What we lacked in rehearsal time together we made up for with incredible energy flowing on the bandstand and in the crowd. The excellent Kevin “Dot Com” Brown (of “30 Rock” fame) was the special guest MC, and he did an amazing job getting the room loose. And this venue…wow. National Sawdust is the finest room we’ve played in NYC if not the whole country. Their programming is unbelievably diverse and well curated. See a few pics from our uber talented photo muse Kate Reeder, and stay tuned for some incredible video footage shot by Michael Croce. Fingers crossed that this is a show and a band that we’ll take on the road.

All this came on the heels of our sojourn in Virginia, where we had a run of great shows at The Southern (Charlottesville – and special thanks to WTJU for presenting the show), The Tin Pan (Richmond), and the Rooster Walk Festival. The latter is one of the coolest festivals we’ve ever played in a beautiful setting with some amazing bands. One artist that was new to us that we particularly dug was Jarekus Singleton, a smokin blues guitarist out of Jackson, MS. Check him out, and keep supporting live music people!
