Peeping & Picklebacks

Mulled ciders, October baseball, and ironic pumpkin carvings… it must be October! We kicked off the month with Harmony Presents at the second annual Hawley Harvest Hoedown after having played their excellent Silk Mill concert series twice before. It was an excellent triple bill featuring ourselves, Caribou Mountain Collective, and the hometown Coal Town Rounders in the beautiful old Ritz Theater. A real gem with some sweet leaf peeping in the Poconos.

Next up we had a fantastic hometown throwdown at our old haunt, Rockwood Music Hall. It’s been a whirlwind since we last played in NYC, so we arranged a little pre-party with some our nearest and dearest to help us get back in the New York state of mind (thanks to the excellent bar Hill & Dale for the round of picklebacks). After a great time catching up with our people, we were geared up to play to an unbelievably warm and enthusiastic crowd. The night was topped off when our brother Bruce Harris emerged from the crowd to join us on “I Want Mo’.”

Then on down to our southern home away from home in Charlottesville, VA for the Levitt AMP series at the IX Arts Park. It was an incredibly cool space with all sorts of funky murals, giant bubble machines, a bullmastiff named Mozart, and was all put on by our good pals at WTJU, one of the finest radio stations in the land. It was a fluky winter day in October with chilly winds a temperatures below freezing, so we had to really amp ourselves up to play outdoors. The fans who stuck it out with us gave us more warmth and good vibes than the stage lights, and once our fingers loosened up, we had a big ol’ time. We were even joined by one of our old Oberlin buddies and former Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds alum Ryan Snow on trombone for a few tunes.

Meanwhile we’re still hard at work on our new recording, expect to hear some big things coming soon….
